21st Century Skills - Realising our Potential: The Skills Strategy White Paper
Key Messages
Skills are an important part of our working relationship and all too often employers are falling short in supplying adequate training. "Job for Life" no longer seems to be a term we use in this country it is Employability for Life.
This countries success is reliant on our skills base, sadly we are lacking behind our European counterparts. Hopefully this will change on the implementation of this report.
We all need to work together in gaining more skills this includes the Government, Business and the unions and of course the individuals who choose to go down this route.
Other Issues relating to Adult Learners
- There will no longer be a age capping system on Modern Apprenticeships.
- Adults whom left school, having not gained 5 GCSE will be entitled to free education allowing them to gain education needed.
- £30.00 a week will be available for adults returning to school (this will be means tested)
What the proposal will do for employers
- Development a national programme for employers to make sure all needs for training is met.
- Design and Delivery of Modern Apprentice to have more employer involvement, employers will also be issued with an "Employers Guide to Good Training".
- A major new voice for employers and employees in each sector to be placed under the Sector Skills Council.
Implementation of the report needs to be effective as soon as possible the UK has lacked behind in Skills for to long and employers should welcome the opportunity to have access to trained staff.
